When I heard the name of the Almighty Dollar slot from Rival Gaming, I did wonder if the game was all about the US dollar and I half expected to see banknotes bursting from the reels and a celebration of wealth and the finer aspects of life that having a lot of money brings.
However, I was rather taken aback that the focus of the Almighty Dollar slot seems to be the first word in the phrase rather than the second. The setting for the game seems to be some kind of heavenly gate. All we're missing is St Peter and his ledger.
In truth, I think the game designers got a little muddled here. We have some unusual symbols on the reels to say the least and I'm not really sure how (a) they link together and (b) what they have to do with heaven or (c) what they have to do with dollars.
However, as we have seen in the past, it matters less what the slot is about compared to how the slot plays, so let's take a closer look at the Almighty Dollar slot and see exactly how it plays out when you get the reels spinning.

Presentation
As we have mentioned previously, the inspiration for the Almighty Dollar slot seems to be angels, heaven and cash. I'm not really sure how they all fit together neatly but what you have here is a 3-reel game with five selectable pay lines. You can wager from 0.01 to 5.00 per line and you can bet up to three coins on each line, which gives you a nice betting range.
The reels are located to the side of the reels and to the left of them are the list of pay-outs you can win in the game, stated in terms of the number of coins you can win on each spin. There are three pay out options, each for the number of coins you wager per line (one, two or three).
The graphics on the slot I have to say, being kind, are rather simplistic and have a retro feel. If I was being unkind, I'd say they were somewhat ugly. The animations are smooth enough though and the sounds are, again, somewhat basic. This is definitely a slot designed to appeal to a retro audience, though with a couple of more modern features thrown in to liven things up a little.
What's on the reels?
On the reels we have the lower value symbols of which there are three, a horn, a ring and a lyre and these are all golden.Wins range from between two to four coins for these wins, with the size of the win multiplied by the number of coins you are playing each win (so with three coins, you can win a maximum of 12 coins with the lower value symbols).
There's three mid-range symbols too and these are the rather disheveled looking lion, the blonde haired lady (who I am presuming to be some form of angel and a blonde haired chap. These offer higher value wins of between 5 coins and 30 coins depending on the symbol landed and how many coins you wager.
At the top of the pay table are the two higher value symbols and these are the lucky 7, again bedecked in gold and the 3x symbol, which is the really big paying symbol in the game. You can win up to 15 coins per coin wagered with the lucky 7 symbol, but that increases by 10x that amount for the 3x symbol. Bet three coins and land three 3x symbols across the reels and you win the jackpot of 450 coins.
You need to land three of each symbol to trigger a win and all wins pay left to right only.
Wild features
The reason the 3x symbol pays so well is that it is also the Wild in the game and in addition to offering sizeable pay-outs when landed across the reels, it can also substitute for any of the other symbols to create winning lines.
Indeed, when it does, you understand why the symbol is a 3x symbol as you will also receive a 3x multiplier on any win complete with a Wild, which is a very nice bonus and which can lead to some of the better value wins in the base game.
Free Spins features
The only other symbol on the reels is the heavenly Free Spins scatter which is decked out with its angel's wings. Land two of these left to right on a single pay line or indeed anywhere across the reels and you trigger 7 Free Spins and if you can land all three ,then you increase that to the maximum number of Free Spins, which is 21.
It's a real rarity to see Free Spins triggered with just two scatters, especially when they can be landed anywhere across the reels, so this is a big positive for the Almighty Dollar slot. Free Spins play out in the same way as the base game, with no real changes and in truth, I'd have liked to have seen another little bonus for players during Free Spins, if only to differentiate it a little from the base game.
Other bonus features
There are no other bonus features on the Almighty Dollar slot.
Best feature of the Almighty Dollar slot
Without doubt, the fact that you can trigger Free Spins with just two scatters and three times as many by landing three, is the highlight of this slot. It does make triggering the Free Spins bonus a lot easier than on games where you need three Scatters to do the trick. Admittedly, the pay outs in Free Spins can be very variable, ranging from almost nothing, to a handsome win, but the fact you can trigger the bonus relatively easily does add a lot of appeal to the game.
What does the Almighty Dollar slot lack?
I think first the Almighty Dollar slot needs to be a bit more clear in what it is actually about. At the moment, it seems to be a slot about gold things in heaven, with some badly drawn characters thrown in for good measure. Additionally, I'd have liked to have seen a bit more differentiation between the Free Spins bonus and the base game. While the Free Spins are always welcome, I feel the player deserves more than just the same base game spins free. Even if it is just something small, like Wilds being stacked two high, this would have made the Free Spins game more memorable and the slot less repetitive.
Conclusion
As three reel slots go, Almighty Dollar is one of the more confused games that I have played. I am not really sure what the game designers were trying to do with the game. Is it about heaven, money, wealth or something else entirely different? Despite the somewhat confused theme, the actual slot itself is a fun, retro styled game with a couple of more modern features which do give it added appeal. I feel the Free Spins bonus could be more rewarding, but the rate at which it can be triggered from the base game, especially using just two Scatters is a real positive. If you don't mind more retro-styled (i.e. bad) graphics and basic sound, then this is a pretty enjoyable 3-reel slot.
