One of the most amazing facts I heard about gold was that the amount of gold excavated in the entire world at present would only be enough to fill two Olympic sized swimming pools.
Of course, part of the process of turning slivers and tiny shards of gold into the gleaming bars of bullion includes melting it down in furnaces to turn it into liquid and hence the inspiration for the Liquid Gold slot is discovered.
The slot, released back in May 2015, is a 20 payline slot featuring the usual 5x3 reel layout. You can wager from as little as 0.01 coin pup to 0.50 coins in denomination which means that you can wager from as little as 0.20 per spin, up to a maximum of 100.00 per spin. Therefore, this is a game that will appeal to smaller stakes players, as well as high fliers.
In terms of game-play, well the best thing we can say is that there is nothing to inherently dislike about the slot. The game plays smoothly across all devices and looks great, especially against a black backdrop which really makes the gold colour scheme ultra-effective and eye-catching.
However, there isn't a huge amount going on in the slot and with a maximum win of just 50,000 coins, this isn't a slot that is going to see you with a win big enough to go out and get your car gold-plated any time soon.
The symbols are a mixture of the usual high and low symbols. The playing card lows are back but this time are bright gold in colour and rather soft-edged in terms of the font used. Usually, I don't like seeing these symbols in games, but with the new look, it sits rather well against the black backdrop for the reels.
The higher symbols are all to do with gold and feature a crucible, 6 gold bars, 3 gold bars and a single gold bar. Not a huge amount of them but they are hit relatively frequently in the base game and offer you enough wins to keep you spinning the reels.
The base game is enjoyable enough but there needs to be more to a mobile slot nowadays and fortunately for Liquid Gold, there is, in the form of a couple of other bonus features.
The first of these is the Wild symbol, which is the Liquid Gold slot logo. This can be used to create winning paylines by replacing any of the other high or low symbols on the reels when landed. The more Wilds you land across the reels, then the more chance you have of hitting a higher value payline.
The other feature to watch out for is the Scatter symbol which is the Free Spins logo. You need to land three or more of these across the reels in order to trigger the free spins round.
During free spins you are awarded 10 free spins (regardless of how many scatters you land on the preceding spin) and with those free spins you receive a 2x multiplier on every win. That's a nice bonus which can, if you hit a number of good spins, drastically improve your payout.
However, you can't re-trigger your free spins from within the bonus game which is something of a disappointment.
However this doesn't really matter as you land the free spins bonus so frequently in Liquid Gold that it becomes very appealing to play anyway. Unlike some other slots where free spins can be triggered only rarely, in Liquid Gold, it seems like you hit free spins after every few spins and that is extremely appealing to players.
In truth, triggering the free spins so often is a key element in Liquid Gold as beyond this, there isn't actually a huge amount to the slot. It is a simple enough game to play and understand, it is medium to low variance and offers a relatively small jackpot, but is playable for a range of stakes to suit all players.
Is it groundbreaking? No, but it is a solid slot and one that you should definitely take a closer look at, especially if you enjoy the thrill of free spins.
