When you think of Robin Hood, there's generally some presumptions that you make. Robin Hood is generally a man, Maid Marion a woman and his enemy is generally the Sheriff of Nottingham.
However, be prepared for any preconceived notions you have about this famous story to be shattered thanks to the beautifully realised Robyn mobile slot.
Robyn is in fact the heroine of the slot and although based loosely on the man of legend, she is in actual fact a young lady, dressed in shocking red rather than Lincoln Green and it is through her eyes that the story behind the Robyn mobile slot evolves.
In fact, there is a whole 'Disney remake' feel to this slot and while it certainly offers a different portrayal of the legend, there's something just perhaps a little too cutesy about it to appeal to die hard Robin Hood fans. The Sheriff has been replaced by an evil queen and instead of Merry Men, Robyn has a charming prince as her aide.
It's Robyn Hood but not as you know it.
That said, the first thing that strikes about this slot are the graphics which are truly stunning. A fantastic job has been done in rendering the characters in the game and the animations, which play out alongside the spinning reels from time to time are also beautifully brought to life.
The sound effects and music that accompany the game are also highly evocative and certainly, the Robyn mobile slot scores highly in terms of production values, but how does it shape up as a slot itself?
Well first of all let's take a look at the slot itself. The production values have extended to the symbols on the reels which have been beautifully realised. There's the usual playing card lows yes, but the high symbols of Robyn herself, her smiling prince, a gallant steed and more have all been rendered equally spectacularly.
The slot itself is a 5x3 reel slot with 243 paylines in operation on every spin, you can bet from 0.25 coins per spin up to a maximum of 25.00 per spin and this comes with a maximum win of around 243,000 coins which is a very nice jackpot to target.
Smaller wins are regular in the base game but perhaps too regular as the thrill of a bigger win does not happen very often, but still if you like to see your balance topped up regularly with incoming coin, Robyn hits the bulls eye.
That brings us neatly on to the big base game feature of the slot which is the Target symbols. When these appear in the screen, Robyn will appear and shoot the target to turn it into a different symbol, offering you an additional chance to win. If more than one Target appears on screen, she will shoot all symbols turning them all into the same symbol.
This is a nice feature and it is beautifully animated but all too often, when it is triggered the symbol simply turns into one that doesn't offer the player a win, which is a bit self-defeating.
You can only trigger Wild symbols underneath Target symbols in the base game, which again means another potential avenue for revenue is somewhat cut off as it is rare that a Target symbol is hit and turns into a Wild.
The big plus in the game however is the Free spins round, the scatter symbol is the Robvn slot logo and three of these or more anywhere across the screen triggers 12 free spins. These can be re-triggered from within free spins (and this does happen relatively frequently) and when you can re-trigger the bonus, you can earn a nice win.
The other big bonus of the Free Spins round is that all Target symbols automatically become Wild symbols which once again helps the player achieve a decent sized win, especially when they can land multiple Wilds across the reels in free spins.
Robyn is a very good looking slot, but there isn't perhaps the substance of some other games to match its beautiful appearance. Big wins are rare and although you can get plenty of smaller wins, the lack of medium sized wins does become a drag at times.
