Presentation

The presentation of the Voodoo Magic slot is excellent and is one of the best features of the slot. The setting is a dark, mysterious forest that is a very eerie setting, especially with the wispy mist and strange glowing lights. The reels are dark, but not so dark as you can't see what is on them and the simple drumbeat musical accompaniment is very fitting, although it is a bit repetitive and it is a tune that does get lodged into your head and you will find yourself humming it for days afterwards and not really remember where it came from.

The animations are smooth on the game and when the bonus triggers, you get some decent animations and sounds effects too. Realtime Gaming have produced a very nice looking and sounding slot here and they should be commended for that.

What's on the reels?

It is good to see that Realtime Gaming have wisely decided to leave the playing card symbols out of the Voodoo Magic slot and instead what you have are a collection of symbols all linked in with the mysterious practices of Voodoo. Lower value symbols include the Skull, the dagger and necklace, the candles, the snake, a collection of potions and powder and the drinking chalice. Wins with these symbols start at 2 coins and increase up to 300 coins.

I think this would have given the base game a bit more excitement than it has at present.

Conclusion

At first when I previewed the slot and looked at the bonuses on offer, I didn't think this would be a game to hold your attention for very long as it did appear very basic, but Voodoo Magic does have plenty of appeal when you are playing. The bonuses are somewhat generic but the addition of the Multiplier element to Free Spins really does give this part of the game a big boost. However, they've really raised the bar with the Voodoo Magic slot. The game is dark, mysterious and not a little unsettling and the setting of a creepy forest is also a good touch. The music is fitting but is a bit repetitive to say the least which is a pity as had it not been, the score would have been even higher.
• Game-play: 13 / 20 - I was wondering how complicated the Voodoo Magic slot was going to be to play and the answer to that is that it is actually a very simple slot, just based on a slightly darker more arcane theme than usual. You essentially have a Wild symbol, some Free Spins and that is about it. The base game is a more medium variance offering with a nice mix of low value and mid to higher value wins, but there's nothing in the slot that is truly innovative and nor is it overburdened with features.
• Bonus Features: 14 / 20 - I've bumped up the marks here on the Voodoo Magic slot for a couple pf reasons.
