Georgie Porgie is a simple nursery rhyme that many children come to learn at a very young age.
It may be slightly politically incorrect nowadays, but half the fun of nursery rhymes is that they don't tend to conform to what has become socially acceptable in the modern age.
"Georgie Porgie pudding and pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry
When the boys came out to play,
Georgie Porgie ran away."
Rather than getting on their high horse, Microgaming have decided to take the brave approach of updating this ancient rhyme and giving it a modern twist. This was the first in the series of nursery rhyme themed slots that made the transition from website onto mobile and tablet devices and it is not difficult to see why.
For while the subject matter of this revamped version of Georgie Porgie may not be to everyone's taste, what is undeniable is that Microgaming have designed a very playable, enjoyable and rewarding slot game.
A quick look at the reel reveals that there are a mix of symbols. The playing card lows are present and the higher value symbols are all taken from the nursery rhyme and include pictures of Georgie Porgie (who is seemingly a rather heavy-set cross between Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall and Bugs Bunny), Georgie trying to kiss the girls, the girls crying, the erstwhile boys (who are traditional sports jocks) and of course, Georgie Porgie running away.
It is all rather simplistic and this approach to the slot converts well in the cartoon style graphics which fit the genre rather well. Add in some handy sound effects and music and the actual presentation of the game is slick and makes playing the base game enjoyable.
The basics of the slot are that is your typical 5x3 reel game from Microgaming, which has 15 non-selectable paylines in operation on every spin. This is definitely a slot for the lower to mid level player however as slots can be put into a spin for just 0.15 per game, but the maximum bet is just 15.00 which makes it one of the more affordable slots at the top end.
The maximum win available on the slot is 97,500 coins, which still represents a huge increase on what you would wager initially and in the game, you tend to win on relatively frequent spins. However I would say that this is definitely more a medium-volatile game, rather than a low volatile slot. Meaning payouts are relatively regular, but not as frequent as some similar slots.
The slot also boasts a number of other key features. The in game Wild symbol (easy to spot as it is the Georgie Porgie Logo) will substitute for any high or low symbol to help create a winning payline across the reels on every spin.
However, one nice touch is that every time you win using a Wild symbol in the base game, your winnings are subject to a 5x multiplier, which really helps ramp up the value of the wins and gets you excited when you see a Wild pop onto screen.
What does make Georgie Porgie a very enjoyable slot however is the Free Spins, this is accessed when you land three, four or five of the fresh mint scatter symbols across the reels. Depending on how many you land, you will earn 15, 20 or 25 free spins respectively.
The great news is that every free spin also comes with a 5x multiplier attached which when you start to hit some of the bigger value wins, can see your earnings from this round increase rapidly.
Better still, if you hit another Fresh Mint symbol during free spins, then this will reward you with another free spin added on to your total.
There's lots to admire about the Georgie Porgie slot even though it may be based on a child's rhyme. You may not agree with the sentiments, but the slot itself plays superbly well and is a great example of a high quality medium variance slot that has pitched its rewards perfectly.
