Have you ever wondered why there seem to be so many different eastern-themed games floating around online casinos? It seems you can't go more than a few months before another pops up as a release.
Is there something unduly special about the Far East that makes it the perfect foil for a slot game?
Well, the reason Dragon Dance slot was released by Microgaming as another of their growing list of similarly themed games is two-fold. First off, it is the month of the Chinese New Year and with over a billion people set to celebrate, that is big news.
Secondly, players in the Far East and those that originate from there but located all around the world, make up a substantial number of online slots players in the world today, so it is a sensible approach by any slot company to ensure that there are game themes that will appeal to this particular type of gamer.
And the new Microgaming slot Dragon Dance will do precisely that.
Timed so that its release coincides with Chinese New Year, which is the theme of the slot, Dragon Dance is one of the new breed of 5x3 reel slots that does away with paylines and instead has 243-ways to win on every spin. With spins starting at just 0.25 a go, though you can increase this up to 125.00 per spin, it is also a game that can be played by any player of any size bankroll.
There's also some additional features on the slot for more experienced players, including an auto-play feature which allows you to play for a stated number of spins, or define how many spins you want to play for at the set price level.
We know that Dragon Dance is a slot themed on the Orient and Chinese New Year, but how does it look? Well, as you would expect the slot is bright and vivid with a predominantly red background which, to be honest, is a tad garish, though understandable given that red is the colour for good luck in China.
On the reels there are the usual playing card low symbols. Some people like them as it is immediately apparent which are the low symbols on the reels and which are the high, but personally I find them somewhat disappointing; almost as if Microgaming have taken the quicker option of using them once again, rather than developing additional symbols to replace them on the reels.
The high symbols on the reels are all to do with Chinese culture and the New Year celebrations including two fantastically ornate Dragons, the white and red one of which offers a top payout of 250.00 while the golden dragon offers the top base game payout of 400.00 (not including Wild payouts).
The base game itself is interesting with one special feature (which we'll look at in more detail later) but let's first let you know about two other symbols on the reels, the Scatter and Wild symbols.
The Wild symbol is the Dragon Dance logo which is easy to spot and which can be used to replace all other symbols in the game apart from the Scatter symbol, in order to help make up a winning payline. The more Wilds you land across the reels, the better your chances of triggering a bigger win.
However, the real key to the larger wins of up to 160x your wager comes from the Free Spins round and this is triggered when you land three or more of the Chinese Cracker scatter symbols across the reels. When you do this you immediately win 15 free spins and better still, any win you achieve during the free spins round is tripled thanks to a 3x multiplier.
And if you are lucky enough to land three or more scatter symbols across the reels during free spins, you can re-trigger them once again to earn even more free spins and really maximise your winnings during the round.
So far, Dragon Dance all sounds very much like pretty standard fare for a Microgaming slot, but there is one additional feature that really gives the slot a new dimension and that is the Re-spin Feature.
What this feature does is allows players the chance after a spin, to select one reel and re-spin it, for a stated amount of credits. If you re-spin that reel and land a winning combination then of course, you take the money.
This feature is almost like a second chance when you get a heart-stopping selection across the reels, but just one reel lets you down, now you can spin that reel for the stated price again in the hope that it will match up across the reels and trigger that big win.
The Re-spin feature certainly helps bring to life the Dragon Dance slot as without it, it is very much a typical Microgaming offering. That's not a bad thing as it is still a high quality product and offers punters the chance to win a decent amount of money, but the addition of that feature does give it added appeal over other similar themed slots.
You can play Dragon Dance at your chosen Microgaming Casino right now, so why not load it up and give it a play today. Or try the new Bikini Party slot which offers very similar game-play on a totally different theme!
