One of the most exciting things about a progressive jackpot slot is that it can be won by any player, at any time. Up until a few days ago, arguably the biggest progressive jackpot game in the world, Mega Moolah, was set to top the $4m mark, having not been won since 16th December 2013.
However, that has now changed.
Just a few days ago, one lucky player playing the exciting Microgaming progressive slot, placed a bet of just $1.25 on the original Mega Moolah game and spun the reels. The resulting combination of that spin changed their life forever.
In that single spin, the winner (known only by the initials G.M) landed the jackpot winning combination, guaranteeing themselves one of the biggest ever Mega Moolah jackpot wins of USD$3,905,087.
At the time of writing, little is known about the latest winner of one of the biggest online progressive jackpot wins of all time.
Over the past six months, the jackpot on the Mega Moolah slot has grown from the $1 million mark that it had reset itself too after another player won a USD$1.6m jackpot in December 2013.
Indeed, over the last four months of 2013, the jackpot was won a total of four times and across 2013 in total, seven lucky players managed to land the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot.
The jackpot was won in February, twice in May and then once each in September, October, November and December 2013 with well in excess of USD$10 million paid out to all seven lucky winners.
One of the winners was Gabriel L, who won in September a huge sum of £3.7m via his mobile phone the largest winner via mobile of the Mega Moolah jackpot.
In comparison to 2013, 2014 had been a very quiet time for jackpot winners with no winners over the first five months of the year. The effect of this of course was to see the progressive jackpot swell in size to just over USD$3.9m in late June 2014, when G.M became the first player in 2014 to win the jackpot and a life-changing sum of money.
How does G.M's USD$3.9m Mega Moolah win compare?
It is hard to believe that the Mega Moolah game has been running successfully now for over six years. The first jackpot winner came in April 2008, when Klaus E from Finland won USD$5.55m. Just over a year later, Georgios M from Greece won a USD$8.65m jackpot on the same game.
That win in May 2009 was the biggest win on the Mega Moolah progressive slot for many years, until on 9th December 2012, John Orchard from the UK won the largest Mega Moolah jackpot won to date; a total of USD$9.49m when he played the Dark Knight Slot (which is part of the Mega Moolah network of games).
Since then, Gabriel L has won USD$5.94m in September 2013.
G.M's win this June of USD$3.9m places him ninth on the list of Mega Moolah jackpot winners. The full list is shown below:

Other interesting facts about this win include the fact that G.M becomes the first ever Mega Moolah jackpot winner to have won their prize in the month of June. Until this players win earlier this month, no other jackpot winner had achieved the feat in the sixth month of the year.
This means that the Mega Moolah jackpot has been won in every month of the year bar one; January.
May and December have been the most popular months for jackpot winners, with both months seeing four players land the jackpot in the years from 2008 to 2014. October has seen three winners, November, July and August two apiece and February, March, August, September and now most recently June, all with one lucky winner apiece.
Should I play Mega Moolah now the progressive jackpot has been won?
Some slot players will tell you that now that the progressive on Mega Moolah has been won, that it is not worth playing on the slot for a while as it won't pay out again for a considerable length of time.
Unfortunately, this is completely untrue. The jackpot could pay out within five minutes, five hours, five days, five months or five years of you reading this sentence.
Every spin of Mega Moolah has the same chance of hitting the jackpot, regardless of when the last progressive jackpot win was made. The only difference being that the more time that elapses between jackpot wins, the more time the jackpot has to grow to a larger amount of money.
However with a minimum guarantee of one million as a prize, few slot players would turn their nose up at that amount of money being the smallest jackpot win.
The truth of this matter is clearly demonstrated by what happened in 2013. Not only was the jackpot won on average once a month from September through to December, it was also won twice within the space of five days in May.
On 5th May G.L from Germany won a $3.97m jackpot and then just five days later on the 10th May, Jason A from New Zealand became the first mobile phone player to win the progressive jackpot when he won $1.06m.
Clearly, this shows that the progressive jackpot on Mega Moolah can be won at any time and that players can land the jackpot, regardless of how recently the previous jackpot was won.
As yet, the details surrounding G.M's big win this June are being kept a closely guarded secret but he becomes the 22nd Mega Moolah jackpot winner since the game first began.
The question is, could you be the 23rd?
