Last month Microgaming have released not one, but two Titans of the Sun slots, one for the male Titan Hyperion and another for his female counterpart and sister Theia.
There are many similarities between the games but each has its own distinctive features and has a different jackpot that can be won.
Hyperion and Theia were brother and sister in ancient Greek mythology however that didn't stop these two Titans becoming parents to a son, or rather the Sun. It is this somewhat unusual union that is celebrated in this stylish pair of new slots.
Both slots have very similar look. Both have the same Greek island backdrop of imposing cliffs and marble buildings against a blue sky and azure sea and all the playing card low symbols (from 10 through to Ace) as well as two of the high symbols, a flaming phoenix and Pegasus.
There's no difference in how each of the slots is presented either with both having 15 paylines across the 5x3 reels and the minimum bet to get the reels spinning starts at just 0.15 with the maximum bet available on each game being 15.00 coins.
Each of the new slots also features the Titans of the Sun slot logo as the in game Wild which can substitute for any of the other symbols (apart from the in game scatter symbol and the Stacked Mystery symbol) to help create more winning paylines.
The in game scatter symbol is a silhouette of the two Titans Hyperion and Theia against the backdrop of the sun. When you land two of these on a reels you earn a small payout, but land three or more and you earn a bigger payout and the chance to win more over 15 free spins. All free spins on both games can be retriggered by landing three more scatters during the bonus round, while all Stacked Mystery Symbols (see below) are Wild for the duration of the Free Spins round.
The newest feature on both the Theia and Hyperion version of the Titans of the Sun slot is the Stacked Mystery Symbol which is the suns face. This slot appears stacked across the reels and when you land three suns on one reel stacked, then it will instantly transform itself plus any other of the stacked mystery symbols viewable on screen into one of the symbols in the game.
This new feature can therefore trigger some big wins, especially if you hit a spin which sees plenty of Stacked Mystery symbols viewable on screen at any one time.
Another new feature on each slot is the addition of Mega Symbols. These appear when you land either of the title characters of the slot, Hyperion or Theia stacked on two adjacent reels. When this happens, a Mega symbol is created which vastly increases the amount of cash that you would win on the spin compared to if the symbols remained the same.
There are some differences between the slots though and good manners always indicates that it is ladies first, so we shall begin by looking at specific features of the Theia version of the slot.
The main difference in this version of the slot is that the Theia version offers a smaller base game jackpot of 13x your bet, but it does offer a potentially much bigger win in the Free Spins round of up to 120,000 coins. In the Theia version, there is also a 2x multiplier paid on all Free Spins wins.
In the Hyperion version, the base game jackpot is 333x your bet and the biggest jackpot available in the game is 75,000 coins. During free spins however, there is no extra multiplier available and wins are paid out as they stand.
This new release from Microgaming does remind me very much of the two Game of Thrones slots, which offer 243-ways and 15-paylines respectively. However with Titans of the Sun Theia and Hyperion, the only real difference between the two games is the size of the base game and free spins jackpots and how the bonuses are calculated during the free spins.
In essence, both these slots are fast, fun and enjoyable to play but they both offer a very similar game. Try them both now at top Microgaming casinos to see which of the two appeals most to your style of play.
