Casino game developers do not have to be corporate powerhouses to come up with great titles. We know because we've had the opportunity to review some of the great games made by Octopus Gaming.

Although fairly young and small, Octopus Gaming is a game developer to be reckoned with.

Octopus Gaming's profile

There isn't a lot of information about Octopus Gaming out there. For example, we don't know when the company was founded. What we do know is that their headquarters are located in Antigua, one of the two islands that make up the nation of Antigua and Barbuda. And why not? If you are going to develop casino games for worldwide consumption, the Caribbean is a great place to do it.

We can also tell you that Octopus Gaming now has more than 90 titles. The vast majority of them are video slot games, though the company does produce a couple of table games along with a keno game. An important thing to note here is that all their games are random number generator (RNG) games. This is to say they do not offer anything featuring a live dealer experience.

One of the things that makes Octopus Gaming special is its commitment to cross-platform compatibility. As far as we can tell, the company has never dabbled in Flash or other older technologies. They went with HTML5 from the start. They have also employed mobile and responsive technologies to guarantee their games work on any device.

According to the company website, here's what drives their development philosophy:

  • State-of-the-art technology
  • 100% confidentiality
  • Cross-platform compatibility
  • Customization for vendors
  • Customer support offering 100% resolution.

They also list eight core values on which the company is built:

  • Exceptional game-play
  • Fair game-play
  • High quality products
  • Operational excellence
  • Global thinking
  • Ongoing growth
  • Responsible gaming
  • A player-first mentality.

Finally, Octopus Gaming is as committed to customers as they are to employees. They market themselves as a customer centric organization that builds new products around player feedback. Assuming all their claims are true, this is a company that will make a lot of waves in online gaming for years to come.

Octopus Gaming's products

The size and age of this company is such that its core product list is somewhat limited. However, there is no indication from information we found that management is dissatisfied with Octopus Gaming's product list. They may expand into new products down the road, or they may continue to put all their resources into being the best at what they now do. We don't know.

There are three core services being offered right now:

  • New Game Development - This company was built on tremendous RNG games. Even with 90+ titles now available, their total game inventory is small when compared to larger competitors, many of whom have up to 1000 titles. You can bet that Octopus developers are going to continue putting as much effort as they can into growing the company portfolio.
  • Fast Integration - Octopus Gaming offers a back-office integration solution that their customers can use to get up and running with their games as quickly as possible. The solution is actually a full set of integration tools that facilitate game installation, cross-selling, product management, and more.
  • Maintenance and Support - You might see maintenance and support as core services that every gaming company would offer. Still, Octopus feels it necessary to make sure their customers know of their customer support. The company promises 100% resolution regardless of the issue at hand. They also say that their support center is always overstaffed to insure support is available at all times.

As for the games in Octopus Gaming's portfolio, most are slots. We played a few of them in order to write this review and, we have to say, we are impressed. These are state-of-the-art video slots with exceptional graphics, user-friendly interfaces, perfectly chosen soundtracks, and plenty of opportunities to win.

All the games we tested were exceptionally smooth, crisp, and clean. All are presented in such a way as to make online slot play enjoyable for players of all levels.

Examples of Octopus Gaming titles

The best way to give you a better idea of Octopus Gaming's development capacity is to review some of their titles. You will find several slot titles along with a couple of the companies table games in this section of our guide. Note that all these games were reviewed by playing them in demo mode. No money was gambled for the purposes of this review.

  • 7 Monkeys

This game was chosen for review simply because it was the first one on the list and its thumbnail image looked pretty impressive. 7 Monkeys is a 5-reel, 7-payline video slot themed around primates. The game offers both a Wild and Scatter symbol for added interest.

The first thing you notice when loading up is the bright colors. They sure are attention-grabbing. There are five different primate symbols in the following colors: pink, orange, blue, green, and yellow. The yellow primate represents the highest paying symbol. As for the Wild, it is a multicolored primate with an angry face and wide-open jaws. The Bonus symbol is a bunch of bananas.

7 Monkeys plays with fixed pay lines and a Free Spins bonus game. Scatter symbols pay separate wins whenever they land. Landing at least 3 Scatter symbols on a single spin triggers the Free Spins bonus game.

It's no wonder 7 Monkeys is a regular on our 'top slots of the month' news. Read about the March 2018 top slots.

  • Bingo Slots

If you are into something with a few more pay lines, Bingo Slots might be more to your liking. This is another video slot game based on the parlor game bingo. All the symbols are represented as balls that might be plucked out of a bingo ball machine. The game plays with Bonus, Scatter, and Wild symbols.

Its 25 pay lines are fixed for every spin, so playing is a simple matter of adjusting the line bet and clicking the 'Start' button. What is interesting is that there are no spinning reels in this game. Instead, the reel set is presented as a bingo card with a 5 x 3 grid. Clicking the 'Start' button causes each of the real positions to start running through the various symbols at high speed. The symbols eventually stop and potential wins are evaluated.

This game is fascinating for no other reason than it offers a new way of looking at video slots. The minds behind Bingo Slots have come up with a particularly good title here.

  • Roulette Cristal

Octopus Gaming's loan roulette game is one of the more interesting RNG roulette games out there. Although it is completely computer simulated, designers built in a croupier's voice to guide players through the action. You can actually hear her say things like, "place your bets please."

The game is a bit clumsy in the sense that placing bets requires the software to change screens. In terms of ease-of-use though, placing bets is not hard at all. You just click your desired chip and then click where on the table you want to place it. It is all pretty simple.

Experienced players will note that Roulette Crystal's betting table combines elements of both European and French Roulette. We're not sure why this is so, but it doesn't matter. The game is very playable either way. It does help if players understand the French terms - at least from a betting perspective.

Keno

Keno fans will appreciate Octopus Gaming's version of this simple lottery-like game. The game is presented with a wooden frame holding 80 numbered tiles from which users can select up to 15 per play. The wood frame sits against a dark green background that gives the game a very elegant appearance. There is also a zoom feature that allows players to get an up close and personal look at the board as numbers are drawn.

Octopus Gaming's keno allows for manual or automatic selection of numbers. Incremental betting is also allowed, with 0.05 credits being the minimum bet and 10.00 being the maximum. Bets are adjusted by clicking buttons to scroll through a number of presets.

This is not the flashiest version of keno we have ever seen, but it is quite effective. It offers a very satisfying keno experience that most fans of the game are going to enjoy.

Octopus Gaming summary

As big fans of the MegaMoolah.com slot, we appreciate any game developer that puts the time and effort into producing high-quality, entertaining games. That is just what Octopus Gaming does. Their portfolio might be small by comparison, but the games they have already produced are at the top of the list in terms of quality.

We expect to see more online casinos license Octopus Gaming titles in the months and years ahead. One of the advantages of doing so is not having to agree to an exclusive license or use a proprietary environment. Octopus games easily integrate into existing operations with very little effort required on the operator's part. That, in itself, is a big plus for this up-and-coming game company.
