Presentation
The Ghost Ship slot is set on the seas just off the coast of a hilly island. The moon reflects down on the sea and you can see the shimmering ripples in the water at the top of the screen, with the anchored ship just to the right of the half-sunken wreck.
It's a very nice design for such a small space and Realtime Gaming have done very well to incorporate such a lovely image into what is a small backdrop above the reels. Imposed on this is the key information for the slot, the balance, bet size and any wins are displayed at the top with the two progressive jackpot funds, minor and major displayed underneath.
There are up to 25 pay lines in play and these are shown on the left and right of the reels and at the foot of the reels are the buttons which control the size of your bet, the number of pay lines you want to play as well as an Auto-play and a Spin button to get the reels spinning.
The backdrop may be incidental but Realtime Gaming have done a really nice job of it on the Ghost Ship slot, although it is quite dark to make out the backdrop the further down the reels you move. What's on the reels?
On the reels there are a number of different symbols. The lower value symbols are the playing card symbols, with nine through to queen paying the lowest out of between 5 and 100 coins for between 3 and 5 on a pay line. There are four nautical themed symbols which are the higher value slots, the mermaid is the lowest value of these offering a maximum win of 250 coins. Wild Features
The Wild symbol is the Ghost pirate wielding a pistol and this serves two purposes. Firstly, the symbol can substitute for any of the low or higher value symbols listed above to help create one or more winning pay lines on a spin.
Secondly, when you land a Ghost Pirate Wild symbol, the symbol may expand to cover that entire reel and this may well trigger more spins in different pay lines when it occurs as it increases the number of Wilds available. Landing Multiple Ghost captains that expand over the reels is a good way to win some big prizes in the base game.
Speaking of which, if you can land five of the Ghost Captain Wild symbols across the reels on a single pay line, then you will win the biggest possible jackpot in the game of 2,500 coins.
Free Spins Features
The eponymous Ghost Ship is the in game scatter symbol and you will receive a 2x, 10x or 100x your total bet bonus if you land 3, 4 or 5 of these symbols across the reels. That is not all though as if you land a Ghost Ship scatter then the symbols above and below it on the reels could also turn into a Ghost Captain Wild on some spins, which again increases your chances of a win.

The best feature of the Ghost Ship slot is that it has been presented very nicely indeed. I felt that Ghost Ship just needed an extra bonus game in order to really appeal to players. However, with the current pace of development in slots, these games which have a free spins round and a Wild bonus are becoming the bottom line when it comes to slot gaming and in order to appeal I think an additional bonus feature, perhaps a pick-em game that tied in with the ghostly theme of the slot, would have made it more appealing.
Conclusion
Ghost Ship is a very nicely presented slot that packs what I would now view as the standard features of a Realtime Gaming slot, a free spins bonus round and a Wild that offers a few additional benefits beyond substituting for other symbols. It isn't the most original game in terms of design and structure but the theme of the slot is interesting and it has certainly been nicely presented.
The slot is a medium variance game which offers a mix of lower value payouts (some smaller than your wager if you play the full 25 pay lines) and some higher value wins mixed in on occasion. In general it pays out relatively fairly and it isn't too onerous to trigger the bonus features, although sensible bankroll management is always prudent to get the best out of the slot.
