Presentation
It is fair to say that the presentation on the Nova 7s slot is a light year improved on some of the other slots by Realtime Gaming that I've reviewed in the past. Rather than looking like a tired slot stuck back in the 1990s, Nova 7s looks like a modern slot game and is presented in a much more dynamic and appealing fashion.
The setting for the slot is space and the backdrop to the reels is some kind of moon or asteroid with a fabulous space panorama on the reels behind. It is a really lovely backdrop and it is enhanced still further by clever use of dramatic music as you play along and space-age sound effects when you land certain symbols on the reels.
That's not all, symbols will also animate when you hit them on a winning pay line and the general feeling is that this is a much more advanced slot than many other Realtime Gaming games.
All the main controls of the slot are at the foot of the reels including the Spin Button for which you can also hit the space bar to get the reels spinning. The Help and Rules are available by clicking on the bar to the right of the reels.
What's on the reels?
The symbols on the reels are all based on a space-age theme with depictions of different elements as protons and neutrons as the lower paying symbols. These offer payouts of between 3 coins up to 277 coins depending on which colors you hit and how many you land on a pay line with the orange element being the highest value.
That element has the same payout value as the first of the higher value symbols which are the planets and moons. There are four of these, the lowest value being the orange colored planet, then the green, then the blue moon and then the red ringed planet offers the highest standard game payout of 777 coins for five on a pay line.
The blue moon and red ringed planet also offer small payouts for just two symbols on a winning pay line whereas all other symbols need at least three symbols to trigger a payout.
Once again, these symbols have been nicely depicted and they look exciting and are animated when you land one on a winning pay line.
Wild Features
There is one Wild symbol on the reels, which is the Red 7 set against the backdrop of an orange/red burning sun. It can act as a standard wild, replacing all of the high and low value symbols on the reels to create winning pay lines. However, it can also perform one of four other tasks too and when it does, it can lead to some massive base game wins.

Free Spins Features
To trigger the Free Spins bonus features on the Nova 7s slot you need to land three or more of the Scatter 7 symbols (which is the 7 against the blue sun). You also receive a cash prize of between 2 coins and 77 coins for landing three to five scatters but those wins can be dwarfed if you hit a bigger value win in free spins.
Once free spins are triggered, the game will randomly select one of the four free spins games available. Nova 7, Supernova 7, Hypernova 7 feature or the Hypernova extreme feature.
Free Spins are played out against a slightly different backdrop to standard spins, but the change is subtle and you may not even notice that it has changed. Apart from the extra Wilds on the reels, other than that the reels remain the same for free spins.
Other Bonus Features
Other than the bonus features listed above there are no additional features on the Nova 7s slot. There is also no progressive jackpot available unlike several other Realtime Gaming slot games.
Best Feature of the Nova 7s slot
Although both the main bonus features of the Nova 7 shot are brilliant and you can certainly wins some sizeable amounts in the Free Spins bonus, I think I prefer the Wild game. There's obviously close links between the two, but the fact that you can trigger the Wild bonuses more often in the base game and they can provide you with some sizeable wins without having to head into free spins is what tips the balance in their favor for me.
One thing to note though is when you do hit the Red 7 Wilds, you tend to hit the lower value options such as the Standard Wild or Solar Flare options a lot more often. The other Wild bonuses do trigger, but they are far less frequent, especially the Hypernova bonus, but that is likely because when that triggers, you can win some huge amounts of money.
What does the Nova 7s slot lack?
The only thing I felt the Nova 7s slot lacked compared to other Realtime Gaming slots was a progressive jackpot. That would have been a nice addition to the slot, but in truth the game doesn't need it to be better, it would have just made the slot a little more appealing to those who like to play for larger prizes.
In terms of a standalone slot, I don't think Nova 7s lacks for anything and I think Realtime Gaming have developed a cracking space theme game here that stands in comparison with the likes of Starburst by Net Entertainment and games in this popular genre.
Conclusion
Nova 7s is a fantastic slot. It is easy to understand despite there being a lot of different bonus features, the game plays mid to lower variance which means that you win relatively frequently and there is a large enough range between min and maximum bets to ensure that the slot will appeal to all players.
I've criticized Realtime Gaming in the past for not being too ambitious enough with their presentation of a slot, well Nova 7s shows what they can do when they put their mind to it. It is a fun, enjoyable and fair slot to play that will delight both experienced and novice slot fans alike.
