The rhythm of the Samba beat is arguably the heartbeat of Brazilian life. The celebration of Carnival is one of the most joyous expressions of dance and life on earth and it is this that is being represented rather splendidly in the Samba Sunset slot.
Everything that you would expect to see at Carnival is represented, from the beautiful dancing girls, with their spectacular, bright and often skimpy costumes, down to the rhythm of the samba beat accompanying you as you spin the reels. This is a slot that will have you tapping your feet in time with the beat whilst you play.
In addition to the standard game, this is another of Realtime Gaming's popular Progressive Jackpot games which means that there are two jackpots, a Major and Minor up for grabs alongside all the different wins you can achieve in the slot.
So does the Samba Sunset slot leave you wanting to dance the night away in delight, or is this a slot that will have you slumped over your table and snoring before the night is out? Let's take a closer look and find out.
Overview
Where can I play the Samba Sunset slot?
Samba Sunset slot will be available at many different casinos, but how can you be sure that the one you join offers you the best possible deal? Well the good news is that we've already trawled through the sites looking at what is available and we think that the deal at Sloto'Cash Casino is certainly one well worth considering.
New players can join now with the promotional code 400CASINO and when you make your first deposit with the site as a new customer, you will earn a huge 400% deposit bonus on top of your standard deposit. Make the maximum deposit of $1,000 and this will give you an incredible $4,000 in bonus funds to play with at the casino.
This is a fantastic offer for customers especially those that like to commit fully to a casino by making a large deposit initially for them to use for a considerable time. What better way to start playing at a top-quality casino than with an offer that will give you five times as much money to play with than you would ordinarily have.
Presentation
The presentation of the slot has been very nicely done by Realtime Gaming. The backdrop for the base game is a number of palm trees, silhouetted against a sunset, with birds flying around the skies. It's a rather atmospheric picture, but the evidence of Carnival is at the front of the screen on the road with streamers and other colorful decorations littering the floor.
There is also a superb Samba-styled soundtrack accompanying the slot which changes as you land wins compared to the base game and it is also different when you are in between spins compared to when the reels are spinning. The soundtrack is loud, to match the style of carnival and it fits the game very well indeed.
What's on the reels?
There are the usual mix of lower and higher value symbols on the reels in the Samba Sunset slot. The lower value symbols are playing cards from 9 through to the ace and these have been decorated in a brightly colored style. They offer pay outs from 5 coins up to 200 coins depending on the symbols and number of them landed across the reels.
These lower value symbols are joined on the reels by a number of higher value symbols including the Samba Drum, a pair of maracas and two dancing ladies. The two musical instruments offer pay outs of up to 400 coins, while the two dancing ladies both offer pay outs of up to 500 coins, plus you can win if you land two of these symbols on the reels on a single spin.
There are two other symbols on the reels in this game, the Wild and Scatter and each of these has its own bonus features ascribed to it and we'll explore this in more detail below.
Wild features
The Samba Sunset logo is the in game Wild symbol and it appears on the second and fourth reels in the game and unlike other Wild symbols, this can not only substitute for the standard symbols listed above, but also for scatter symbols too.
The Wild does not have any wins attributed to landing these symbols across the reels, so it is only as a substitute for other symbols does it create wins for the player.
Free Spins features
To trigger the Free Spins feature, you need to land the scatter symbol three or more times across the reel. The Scatter symbol is the scenic view of a Brazilian town, lit up at sunset ready for the carnival to begin.
Scatters pay out when you land two or more across the reels, ranging from 2x your bet for two scatters up to 100x your bet for five. Land three or more and you trigger a pay out plus the free spins bonus round.
During Free Spins a new set of reels is used and on each of the free spins, Extra Dancer symbols are added to the reels, including super-sized symbols which can take up all three visible spaces on the reels. During these free spins, any win that uses a Wild symbol in the bonus feature receives a 2x multiplier on the standard amount for that win.
You can re-trigger the free spins bonus, but when you do you don't get the same amount of free spins but rather trigger the Super Games bonus feature which is explained below.
Other bonus features
The Super Games bonus feature is an add-on to the Free Spins Feature and gives you 5 additional Free Spins on top of those earned in the original bonus. During these extra spins, you get even more dancer symbols added to the reels and for any Wild symbol win, the standard amount you receive is subject to a 3x multiplier.
However, once you land the Super Games bonus, you cannot then re-trigger any additional free spins from within the round.
Don't forget too that you also have two progressive jackpots, the Major and the Minor to aim for and these can be won at the culmination of any spin, completely at random. It doesn't matter if the spin is a winning spin or not, if you are fortunate enough to be able to trigger one of the progressive jackpots, you will receive that amount on top of any other winnings you are owed from the spin.
Best feature of the Samba Sunset slot
While the presentation of the Samba Sunset slot is excellent and the game-play works nicely, the best feature of the slot is the free spins bonus games, which can lead to some sizeable wins. However, it has to be said that triggering the bonuses is somewhat difficult and can be hugely variable. In one session, I spun over 200 times without so much of a sniff of landing the bonus, yet in another, I had triggered it three times within the space of around 40 spins.
Of course, when the latter happens it is preferable for the player, so you do need to be aware that you could have to wait a considerable amount of time to trigger the bonus, or you could get lucky and trigger It several times within a short space of time.
What does the Samba Sunset slot lack?
If the Samba Sunset slot lacks anything then I think it is a lack of base game bonus that is different to the other bonus games in the slot. This is especially noticeable on those times when the free games bonus doesn't trigger easily and you are left with many spins in the base game. While the wins in the base game are varied, it would have been more exciting and interesting to have the option to trigger a random bonus when playing through the spins and it would have meant you were not so reliant on triggering the free spins bonus to try and land a decent win.
Conclusion
Samba Sunset is a decent enough slot that has some neat sound effects, decent graphics and a well-designed setting. The base game is well designed and has a good mix of lower value wins and the occasional higher value win to keep your bank balance topped up. However, it can become repetitive to play when the free spins bonus is difficult to trigger which does happen at times on the slot. The Free Spins bonus is rewarding when landed and the Super Games bonus has the potential to be rewarding but often doesn't lead to much greater rewards than the original free spins round, which is a bit of a disappointment. Overall though, this is a decent medium variance slot which has plenty to keep slot players spinning.
