Presentation

There is no mistaking what the Fruit Loot slot is about. Part of the Wild X series of slots, the game is clearly based on the classic 'one-armed bandit' fruit machine, even down to the fact that the presentation includes the retro-styled gaming unit, complete with mechanical reels and a lever that in real life you would pull down to activate the slot.

Although the slot does have a retro look and retro symbols, it does have a few more modern features. There are five pay lines on the reels and the slot also has a Free Spins bonus game and a Wild symbol (the Wild X), which comes with a 3x multiplier as standard, which increases to nine if you can land two Wilds on the reels on a spin.

The sounds are somewhat basic however but the game looks and plays very much like an old retro slot with a few added embellishments and if you are a fan of these particular styles of game, as I am, then you will find lots to like in the Fruit Loot slot.

What's on the reels?

There are a number of different retro-styled symbols on the reels and these start with the Cherry symbol which is the lowest paying symbol however you only need to land one anywhere on the reels to trigger a win. After the cherry are the bar symbols and there are three of these, single, double and treble. These offer higher value wins as well as the ability to mix and match the different type of bars across the reels to land lower value wins.

After that there are oranges and melons on the reels and red lucky 7 symbols and these offer pays of 90, 120 and 150 coins for three across the reels. Firstly, it triggers wins for you a lot more often, the multiplier it comes with can increase the value of those wins markedly and in addition, it also pays the highest possible base game win if you land three across the reels.

What does the Fruit Loot slot lack?

Obviously, as a retro-styled slot, the Fruit Loot slot doesn't have as many of the clever little flourishes that more modern slots have so if you are wanting something that has these technological advances, then you are better off looking elsewhere. What you have here is a slot designed to play across all devices, desktop and mobile, which replicates a traditional slot but with a few added extras and I think Fruit Loot does meet that objective.

Conclusion

Fruit Loot is a clever retro slot that combines elements of modern slots with a strong retro vibe very nicely indeed. The game is part of the Wild X series, with the X meaning multiplier, and I think it will fit in well with that. The rewards on the game don't seem big but being able to play for 10.00 per credit means that even higher rollers will find something to entertain them here. The way the game is presented makes it look like an older-style slot and one that people still clamor to play in casinos across the globe. However, it marries a few more modern features in with the retro look to produce a very playable slot and one that is easy on the eye, although the sound is somewhat basic.
• Game-play: 14 / 20 - If you like retro slot gaming, or pared back slot gaming where all the action happened on any spin and you didn't need to unlock features or bonuses to get at the bigger value wins, then the Fruit Loot slot delivers for the most part. There is a Free Spins bonus game though which does add a level of depth to the gaming which more traditional slots don't have and the Wild X symbol also gives the base game a little extra too.
