I have to be honest and say that when I loaded up Rival Gaming's new Hot Hand three-reel retro styled slot, I took one look at the game and it immediately looked very familiar. Not the same, but to Microgaming's slot 5-reel game Red Hot Devil.

Now, that may not be a bad thing as Red Hot Devil was a good, fun slot to play, but this pared down three-reel version doesn't have some of the bonus features of that slot. Presentation

The Hot Hand slot is somewhat basic in terms of its presentation but is typical of a retro-styled slot. The three reels are on the right-hand side of the screen with the pay table on full display on the left, which is always a nice touch for keeping tabs on winning lines. The main controls are all at the foot of the slot.

The graphics are simple but effective and do have a resonance of the Red Hot Devil slot game from Microgaming and the sound too is basic enough. It's fair to say that the Hot Hand slot is more functional rather than spectacular, but it does play well enough for you to enjoy from your mobile or desktop.

What's on the reels?

All the symbols in the Hot Hand slot are based on a 'hell' theme and are set against a backdrop of flames. The lower value symbols are the four playing card symbols, in increasing value, club, heart, spade and diamond. Higher value symbols include the Cherry, Bell, Diamond, Lucky Seven and the she-devil Burnadette (get it?), who offers wins of up to 225 coins per line.

Wild features

There are three different Wild symbols, one on each of the three reels of the slot and these are all Wild Multipliers, which offer a chance to significantly increase the value of your win. The 2X symbol is on the first reel and this offers you the chance to double the value of your win when landed on a winning line.

The 3X symbol appears on the second reel and this offers a win of 3x the standard amount, while the 4X Wild Multiplier is on the third reel and if landed as part of a win will see you win 4x the standard amount.

There's no denying that Hot Hand is not the most original slot game, nor is it a game that is packed with plenty of different bonus features. However, what it does offer is an enjoyable, retro-styled romp with a very decent sized jackpot to chase and Wild symbols that also come with the bonus of an attached multiplier, which can radically increase the size of a win. It's not going to win any awards, but for a few spins now and then, Hot Hand is rather cool.

• Presentation: 13 / 20 - One of the nice things about three-reeled slot is that many have their pay table displayed as you play and Hot Hand does have this feature. The game is simple enough and the symbols are simplistic and a somewhat uninspired choice. The sound too is also somewhat basic but does the job. All in all, it's a typical three-reel retro slot which does the job without taking your breath away.
• Game-play: 12 / 20 - The game play is a little repetitive as there are no additional bonus games or features you can unlock while playing the slot. The only feature is the Wild Multipliers and while these are welcome, it doesn't hugely add to the experience when playing the game. It's a standard retro-slot, so if you enjoy this older-style slot gaming in particular, then it will tick all those boxes, but more modern slot players may find that the game is a little lacking.
• Bonus Features: 11 / 20 - The positives are that there are three Wild symbols, one for each reel and that each Wild has an attached multiplier based on the reel on which it is situated from 2x on the first up to 4x on the third. Other than that there are no other bonus features in the game which is a little disappointing.
• Entertainment Factor: 11 / 20 - There's not a lot to say about how much fun you'll have playing this game as it depends what type of slots you enjoy. If you prefer modern slot games with bonus features and free spins, then I'd advise you to give Hot Hand a miss as it has none of these. If you enjoy simpler, retro-styled slot (as many do), then Hot Hand is appealing for its big top prize, but to be honest there's little else beyond that to keep you spinning.

There are some nice touches, the Wild Multipliers for example, and a sizeable jackpot to chase but the game itself isn't the most exciting to play. If this theme appeals to you then there are better slots out there which offer you the same theme and lots more features to get your teeth into. All in all, Hot Hand left me feeling a little cold.
