The presentation of the Nordic Wild slot is excellently done. The backdrop of the slot is a Scandinavian wilderness, complete with pine trees and lots of snow, but what I really like is the way that the symbols have been designed so that they are recognizable, but given a rather futuristic tweak and it is fair to say that they are really eye-catching.
The mood of the slot is further enhanced by a pounding and dramatic soundtrack which accompanies you when you play and the animations, when you transfer between the base game and the bonus games on the slot are also smooth and nicely done. It does feel like this slot has been pared down to be a little more simplistic but the overall effect of that is excellent and this is another fine Saucify slot.
The symbols on the reels, apart from the playing card symbols, are all linked in with Scandinavia and the wilds, but they are given a rather futuristic twist, which is very imaginative and not something I have seen on many slots.
There are ten standard symbols in the game, starting with the four playing card symbols which are the lower value options offering wins from 3 coins up to 22 coins. As you will note, if you play the full amount of pay lines then your bet is 10 coins, which means some of these wins are relatively low value.
The higher symbols are more interesting, and they are a pine cone, an oak leaf, a mushroom, a flower, a bear and a moose. Wins on these symbols stretch from 8 coins up to the maximum base game jackpot of 250 coins for five moose on a pay line.
One thing to note is that the symbols are stacked on the reels up to three symbols high, which means that it is possible to trigger multiple wins across several pay lines, which is a good way to increase the value of any win.
Alongside these symbols, there are three other symbols on the reels that all link in with the main bonus features of the slot.
The Wolf is the Wild symbol in the game, and it serves just one purpose in that it can substitute for any of the other symbols, except the two different Scatter symbols, on the reels. Oddly, there is no standalone pay for landing five wolves across the reels, so I assume this would result in a maximum pay out of 250 coins per line landed. These Wild symbols can also be stacked on the reels.
The Wilds are more prevalent in the game during the Free Spins bonus round, when the fact that they are stacked on the reels means that they can help the player facilitate some of the better value wins in this part of the game. Especially if you can land multiple stacks of Wilds across the reels, which is when some of the larger prizes in the game can be won.
The Free Spins Scatter symbol is a rather unusual green/blue colored token or medal and it activates the bonus when you land three, four or five of these symbols across the reels. The number of Scatters you hit with this spin determines the number of free spins you land. Hit three and you get 8 Free Spins, four will see you land 12 Free Spins while land the maximum five and you can pocket 16 Free Spins.
During the Free Spins bonus, you have a 2x multiplier in play on all wins landed in the base game and also, you can re-trigger additional Free Spins by landing three or more of the Scatters on the reels once again during the bonus round.
There is one other bonus feature on the Nordic Wild slot and that is the Owl symbol, this is the Feature Scatter symbol and when you land three, four or five of these symbols across the reels, you launch a special bonus feature, which is a game where you get a number of picks, based on the number of scatters you landed, from a selection of game symbols, each of which hides a cash prize.
Land three Feature Scatters and you get to pick one symbol from three shown on screen. Land four and you get two picks from four symbols and lastly, if you land five Feature Scatters, you get the maximum three picks from five different symbols. The prizes awarded are all based on multipliers of your standard bet.
One thing to note is that you can't trigger this bonus feature during the Free Spins bonus round.
There are lots of nice touches in the Nordic Wild slot. As most Saucify Games are designed, this is a nice-looking game that has some very interesting and unusual graphics and excellent sound and it certainly looks the part. I like the fact that there are two main bonus features and while the Free Spins bonus is probably the more lucrative, I always felt I was more closer to triggering the Feature Scatter bonus round and as such, I felt that offered me a bit more excitement in the game. The fact that the symbols are stacked on the reels does also help the game run nicely too.
I don't think the Nordic Wild slot lacks anything in terms of actual content, the slot has pretty much all the different types of features and bonuses that you would want in a modern video slot. What I do think would have been a nice addition, would have been some kind of randomly triggered base game bonus, as you can spin for a fair time before landing a bonus feature and at times, there can be lulls in play when you struggle to hit a win. A randomly triggered bonus game here would have been a nice touch.
Saucify Games have produced some cracking games over recent times and it is fair to say that Nordic Wild is another that enhances their already burgeoning reputation. The slot looks and sounds like a high quality production and it avoids using many of the cliched items you find in other slots about the snowy Scandinavian north. The bonuses are well thought out and potentially rewarding and the base game has a nice mix of wins. A lower variance slot, it is a game that is more likely to appeal to those who prefer to wager with smaller stakes in my view.
