More Game Themes
After an initial release across a small number of casinos, the Wheel of Wishes slot is available to the vast majority of casinos that carry the latest Microgaming slots and to say that this new slot game is eagerly anticipated, would be understating things a great deal.
Ever since the news that this new game would replace the old Wowpot! jackpot slot and would see a major revamp of that jackpot, turning it from a small jackpot of a few thousand into the biggest seeded prize Microgaming have ever offered, 2 million, excitement has been fever pitch about the release of the game.
However, there's more to Wheel of Wishes than one large progressive jackpot prize, because the second-tier prize in the progressive, the Major jackpot, is also seeded at a massive 50,000. Add to that two different game modes you can play the game in and the chance to win up to 500x your bet in standard mode (or 5,000x in Power Mode) and it is easy to see why this slot has already dominated the minds of many slot players for a good while now.
So how does the new Wheel of Wishes slot shape up? We decided to take a closer look and find out. You can also try the game for free at WheelOfWishes.net.

Presentation
The presentation of the Wheel of Wishes slot depends on which game mode you decide to play. In basic game mode, the slot is set up as a 10 pay line, 5x3 reel slot which you can play from 0.10 per spin up to 25.00 per spin.
The theme of the slot is Arabia and the setting is a rather bleak looking desert which is being baked under a blue sky.
Alternatively, if you elect to play in Power Mode, then the reel set will change (and the game backdrop switches from daytime to night) and instead you will have three reels, two single outside reels (first and fifth) and the middle three reels will combine into a single large reel. On this larger reel are large 3x3 symbols of the five highest paying symbols in the game, and the Scatter.
The sound for the slot is also very fitting with a nice soundtrack accompanying the spins on the reels and some nice musical effects when you land the different bonuses or switch into a different game mode.
What's on the reels?
There are ten standard symbols on the reels in the base game. The lower value of these are the five different shaped symbols starting with the circle and this also includes the four playing card symbols of the heart, club, diamond and spade. Wins on these symbols range from 0.5x your bet up to 3.5x your bet.
There are also five higher value symbols on the reels, and these are all linked in with the Arabian theme of the slot and they are the amulet necklace, two vials of potion, a spell book, a treasure chest and lastly a magic lamp. Wins on these higher value symbols all range from 1.5x your bet up to 10x your bet on a single pay line.
In Power Mode, the five lower value symbols are not included on the reels and only the five higher value symbols, plus the Scatter symbol are included on both the two outside reels and in larger 3x3 form on the middle reel. The Scatter does not appear on the outside reels but a large 3x3 Scatter is present on the middle reel and this is the trigger for the Jackpot Bonus game.
When playing a Power Spin or in Power Mode, any wins using standard symbols will always pay out at the 5-symbol amount and it is possible to win across multiple pay lines in Power Spin mode.
Wild features
There is a single Wild symbol in the base game of the Wheel of Wishes slot and it is easy to recognize as it has the word 'Wild' emblazoned across it. The symbol is also stacked up to three symbols high across all five reels in the base game.
It is also the highest paying symbol on the reels in the base game offering wins of between 4x and 50x your total bet if you land three or more of these Wilds across the reels Of course, with Wilds. being stacked, it is possible to cover the entire reel set with Wilds, which would lead to the same payout (500x your bet) as landing five Scatter symbols.
If you elect to play the game in Power Mode, then there is no Wild symbol included on the reels in this game mode.
Free Spins features
The Wheel of Wishes slot doesn't have a Free Spins bonus game, but it does have a Power Spin available for those playing the base game. More details about the Power Spin and Power Spin Mode are outlined in the section below.
Other bonus features
The main bonus feature of the slot is the Power Spin Mode or Power Mode if you elect to click on the button that activates this game mode.
In the base game, if you land two or more of the Bonus Wheel Scatters on the reels on any single spin, then you will trigger a single, free Power Spin (which puts the game in Power Mode for that spin). Alternatively, you can click on the Power Mode button near to the Spin button and switch the game to only play Power Mode spins.
It is important to note that if you do this, then with Power Mode activated on every spin, your spins will cost 10x the stated coin amount you had selected in the base game. So this means if you were playing for £1 per spin in the base game for example, this would mean a Power Mode spin would cost £10 each time you play (although you can decrease the coin value in Power Mode to reduce the cost of the spin if you prefer).
It is only when the slot is playing a Power Spin that a player can trigger the Jackpot Bonus Game. This is achieved when the player lands the single large 3x3 Jackpot Wheel Scatter symbol, in its entirety on the large middle reel in that game mode. When they do, then the Jackpot Bonus Wheel game will load up.
In the Jackpot Bonus Wheel, you are presented with a wheel that has four different colored segments on. Each of the four color segments corresponds to a progressive jackpot bonus. There are more segments for the Mini and Minor jackpot prizes, than there are for the Major and the Wowpot Jackpot. All you do here is spin the wheel and whatever progressive jackpot the color selected by your pointer lands on, then that is the prize you will receive.
What makes the Wheel of Wishes progressive jackpot so appealing is that the two larger jackpots are very sizeable. The Mini jackpot is seeded at 10.00, the Minor at 100.00 but the Major is seeded at a huge 50,000 and the Wowpot Jackpot is seeded at a cool 2,000,000.
Back in Power Mode, or on a Power Spin from the base game, you can also win cash by landing part or all of the larger symbol on the large middle reel, together with the same symbol on the first and fifth reels. The first and fifth reels will display the same symbol on each spin to help facilitate this. If you can land the entire of one of the large symbols on the middle reel, together with the same symbols on the two outside reels then you will win the 5 symbol prize for that symbol across each of the 10 pay lines in the slot.
In Power Mode, you simply play Power Spins at 10x the usual cost as you would a standard slot, but if you accessed the Power Spin from the base game, after your single Power Spin and any rewards you land from that are paid out, you then return back to the base game to continue playing.
Best feature of the Wheel of Wishes slot
Of course, the massive 2 million seeded progressive Wowpot Jackpot prize is what will draw the most attention to the Wheel of Wishes slot and it is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions in the game, but I also feel that Major jackpot prize of 50,000 (5x more than the seed amount on MegaMoolah.com) is also worth a mention and the fact you can win up to 5,000x your stake in Power Spin mode, or 500x your stake in the base game, means that it has appeal for players throughout the different parts of the slot.
What does the Wheel of Wishes slot lack?
Perhaps the only thing that the Wheel of Wishes slot lacks compared to some other big progressive jackpot games is a dedicated Free Spins bonus round. The Power Spins are good fun, if a little expensive if selected using the Power Mode button, and the fact you only get one when you trigger it from the base game, does make it feel like it is a somewhat all-or-nothing situation on that single spin.
Conclusion
I wondered when Microgaming would turn their attention to revamping their progressive slot game line up and it now seems, with the release of Mega Vault Millionaire last year and now the release of the Wheel of Wishes and Atlantean Treasure slots, not to mention another slot linked to the Wowpot Jackpot prize set to be revealed, and it certainly seems to be the case that they are doing that now. Wheel of Wishes is much more than simply the biggest seeded slot jackpot prize ever made by Microgaming, it is a fabulously designed and put together game that offers players a wide choice of how to play. This game has the potential to be every bit as big and popular as MegaMoolah.com and I can give it no higher praise than that.
