Microgaming and Triple Edge Studios have teamed up to add another title to the growing number of games offering their customers a chance to land the fantastic Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize. This newest addition to the roster is Absolootly Mad: Mega Moolah and it is based on an Alice's Adventures in Wonderland theme.

More specifically, it is based on the Mad Hatter's Tea Party from the book and to bring it to life, Microgaming have utilized one of their most popular creations, the 243 Ways to Win slot, complete with Rolling Reels and a Multiplier Trail. All three items are firsts for any game offering a shot at the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize.

Incredibly, you can play Absolootly Mad for just 0.20 a spin, which is a small amount for a 243 Ways to Win slot. It all sounds too good to be true. How have Triple Edge Studios managed to cram so much into a progressive and yet still keep the game very affordable for all players?

We decided to take a look to find out just before the game went on general release.

Presentation

As you would expect from such a high-profile release by Microgaming, the presentation values on the Absolootly Mad: Mega Moolah slot are superb. The background is a mix of playing cards, stopwatches and other items that are included in the main inspiration for the story, the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, and in particular the Mad Hatter's Tea Party chapter from the story.

The five reels are centrally located and at the top of the reels the four progressive jackpots are displayed, along with the Golden Teapot, which serves a useful purpose in the game as we will discover later.

The slot is a 5x3 reel game with 243 Ways to Win and Rolling Reels in play. There is also a multiplier trail displayed at the foot of the reels, which comes into play when you land a win and the Rolling Reels bonus kicks in.

The look of the slot is very clean and attractive and has me more in mind of film director Tim Burton's vision of Alice in Wonderland than the Disney version and I think the game is all the better for that.

What's on the reels?

To begin with, there are ten standard symbols on the reels. They begin with the four lowest value symbols, which are the playing card suits, Diamond, Club, Heart and Spade. Wins on these symbols range from 0.15x your bet up to 2.4x your bet.

There are six more interesting symbols on the reels that have a more direct link with the Tea Party theme of the slot. These are the stopwatch, a pile of teacups, a cake with a butterfly atop it, the March Hare on top of a cake, a Cheshire Cat made out of jelly and lastly the Mad Hatter himself. Wins on these symbols range from 0.25x your stake up to 10x your bet for five of the Mad Hatter symbols across the reels.

It is worth noting that on Rolling Reels you can get stacked symbols and of course, you can win across multiple pay lines on a single spin, as well as triggering additional Rolling Reels wins (for free) after the initial spin, so this is how you can increase the value of wins in the game.

Wild features

The Wild Symbol is the Mad Hatter Gold Coin and this can appear anywhere on the middle three reels of the slot. It serves only as a substitute on the reels, but it does also serve as a potential trigger of the Jackpot Bonus game.

Each time you land a Wild symbol, the coin will be added to the Golden Teapot at the top of the reel. The more coins you collect, and the greater the value of your bet, then the more chance you will have of triggering a shot at the Jackpot Bonus Wheel game and to win one of the four progressive jackpot prizes.

Your opportunity to trigger the bonus will come when you next land a win in the game and trigger the Rolling Reels feature. When you do and once Rolling Reels has ended, the game will randomly look at your chances of triggering the jackpot game based on the number of coins collected and your bet size. If you are lucky, the Jackpot Bonus Wheel game will load up, if not you will go back to the base game.

The Jackpot Bonus Wheel harks back to the bonus game on the original Mega Moolah slot as you simply spin the wheel to win one of the four progressive jackpot prizes, Mini, Minor, Major and Mega, the latter of which has recently crashed through the 10 million mark.

Free Spins features

There is also a Free Spins bonus game on the Absolootly Mad: Mega Moolah slot and it is triggered when you land three of the Wooden Door Scatter symbols on the first, third and fifth reels on the same spin.

When you do, you receive 8 Free Spins initially although you can receive more Free Spins by re-triggering the bonus game on your Free Spins.

One nice touch is that the Wild symbol can be used as an additional Scatter symbol in this game, which does give you slightly more chance of triggering the bonus.

Other bonus features

The main bonus feature of the slot that you will see most often is the Rolling Reels and Multiplier Trail bonus features. These kick in after every win you land on the game, both in the base game and during Free Spins.

With Rolling Reels, after every win, you are paid out and the symbols that contributed to that win will disappear from the reels. Any symbols left on the reels above them drop down into the vacant spaces below them and any spaces are completed with fresh new symbols. These drops of symbols can trigger additional bonus wins, which are the Rolling Reels Wins.

If you can land successive wins using the Rolling Reels feature, then the Multiplier Trail will kick in. Once triggered the Trail becomes active when you land a win and it starts paying out at 1x the standard amount. Trigger a Rolling Reel win after your initial win and that multiplier increases to 2x. Another Rolling Reel win increases it to 3x and lastly, if you can land a third or more, you will receive 5x that amount for any subsequent wins.

The same bonuses are in play in the Free Spins part of the game but the value of the Multiplier Trail is increased by 3x the standard amount, offering wins of 3x, 6x, 9x and 15x the standard amounts during the bonus.

Best feature of the Absolootly Mad: Mega Moolah slot

Although there is no doubt that the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prizes will be a massive incentive for people to play the Absolootly Mad slot, for me I think the most impressive aspect of the slot is the 243 Ways to Win, allied with the Rolling Reels and Multiplier Trail bonus. When these features combine, they can help you land some good value wins, especially during the Free Spins bonus when that increase in value of the multiplier really does help increase the value of those wins. You do need patience to get the best out of it, but Absolootly Mad can be an enjoyable and at times rewarding game thanks mainly to those features.

What does the Absolootly Mad: Mega Moolah slot lack?

Being brutally honest, I don't think there is any glaring omission from the Absolootly Mad: Mega Moolah slot. I think if you took a straw poll of slots fans that liked progressive jackpot slots and asked them what kind of games they'd like to see as a progressive, then Absolootly Mad (and its predecessor Atlantean Treasures) would both satisfy a great deal of that number. As such, I don't think there are any alterations I would make to the game as such, and it is generally rare that this is the case.

Conclusion

It is fair to say that Microgaming have given their Mega Moolah slot a massive overhaul over the last few months and alongside Atlantean Treasures and Mega Vault Millionaire, the Absolootly Mad slot is a fantastic addition to that team. It offers game-play that is a first on any Mega Moolah slot and many of the features are a first on this particular progressives. It is fun, engaging and enjoyable to play and offers a great balance between risk and reward. Fans of progressive jackpots will love the chance to try and win the massive Mega Moolah jackpot playing this game.

Ratings

  • Presentation: 17 / 20 - While the presentation and sounds on the Absolootly Mad: Mega Moolah slot are very well done, I would have liked to have perhaps seen a little more fizz with the symbols on the reels. I like the idea of including some characters in the party as cake decorations, but I did feel the omission of Alice herself was a bit of a strange decision. Even so, this is still a gorgeous slot to look at and play and the animations are smooth as silk.
  • Game-play: 19 / 20 -When you combine 243 Ways to Win, with Rolling Reels and a Multiplier Trail, you tend to be onto a winner with the game-play. Add to that a Wild that helps you trigger the Jackpot Bonus Game, a massive progressive jackpot and a game that offers you regular rewards and a chance of Free Spins, and you have everything you would want in a slot, and more.
  • Bonus Features: 19 / 20 - For me, this is one of the best line up of bonus features on any slot, let alone a progressive jackpot game. The 243 Ways to Win, Wild and Rolling Reels with the multiplier trail is a tried and tested formula and then add to that a great Free Spins round and a shot at the four Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prizes and I fail to see what other bonus features could be added to make this game any better. I also like the tribute to the original Mega Moolah with the return of the Jackpot Bonus Wheel game too.
  • Entertainment Factor: 18 / 20 - The essence of a good slot game is one that makes you focus more on the fun you are having, rather than how much you are winning or losing and that is precisely what happens on the Absolootly Mad slot. The regular triggers of the Rolling Reels and Multiplier Trail bonuses, plus the occasional Free Spins means that you never feel too far away from a win and add to that a chance at a huge progressive jackpot, and you will find this a very exciting slot to play.
  • Play Value: 15 / 20 - Progressive Jackpot slots are generally high variance in their nature but what makes Absolootly Mad such good value is the fact you can play from 0.20 per spin. For a 243 Ways to Win slot, that is very cheap, especially one with a massive progressive jackpot prize. Add to that the 243-ways and the Multiplier Trail in Rolling Reels and although bigger wins can be spaced apart, you always feel like you get good value for money on what you spend.
  • Overall 88 / 100 - Don't be fooled by the hype, Absolootly Mad is a fantastically enjoyable slot in many ways. It is not often you can play a 243 Ways to Win slot from just 0.20 per spin, let alone one that offers you a shot at a potential million-plus prize. Add to that the Rolling Reels, Free Spins and Multiplier Trail bonuses, and you have a slot that will have massive long term appeal and which I think is arguably the best Mega Moolah slot you can play at the present moment in time. That is a pretty big call and it is a close run thing, but I do rate Absolootly Mad: Mega Moolah that highly.
