Few people will forget one of the most iconic moments in cinema, a close up on a glass of water which ripples at the sound of a huge thumping footfall approaching the broken down car. The next thing you see, a looming T-Rex deciding to try and devour the contents of the vehicle.
The original Jurassic Park was a monstrous hit and one of the most technically innovative films of its time. A few years later, the Jurassic Park slot was released. This was based on the original film and it too had a raft of new features including digitized effects from the movie and parallax scrolling.
Now, Microgaming are releasing their next slot buster, which is based on the film Jurassic World. This outstanding and innovative new slot drags you kicking and screaming into the plot of this latest sequel in the film franchise, while retaining the technical innovation, breadth of features and excitement that made the original slot such a hit.
So is Jurassic World a bonafide classic, or is it a fossil from older times that would be best left deep underground? Let's take a closer look at the Jurassic World slot and find out.

Presentation
The presentation on the Jurassic World slot is as good, if not better than the presentation on the Jurassic Park slot of a couple of years previously and if you remember back to that slot, it was one of the most groundbreaking games ever seen in the slot industry.
The great news is that the new Jurassic World slot has pushed the envelope even further. The soundtrack, digital effects, snippets of dialogue from the film and music are all absolutely first rate and a real treat on the ears. Of course, they are paired on screen with outstanding snippets of action taken directly from the film, as well as a number of smooth and beautifully detailed animations all presented in glorious high definition.
There are few slots which really hit the nail squarely on the head when it comes to presenting the game and capturing the essence of the theme of the slot. Jurassic World follows the precedent set by its older brother in being one of the very few slots to do this to perfection.
What's on the reels?
On the reels are a collection of symbols which all have links to the films main characters and theme. There are a total of six different dinosaurs on the reel these being the Pteranadon, the Velociraptor, a Stegosaurus, an Ankylosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, and the genetically manipulated Indominus. Alongside these lower value symbols are four higher value symbols.
The high value symbols are all characters from the film Simon Masrani (Irfan Khan), Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio), Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen Brady (Chris Pratt). Brady is the highest value of the four higher value symbols.
Wild Features
There is one main Wild feature in the Jurassic World slot and that is the Jurassic World logo. This can be used to substitute for all symbols in the game (apart from the scatter symbol, which we will explore in more detail in the section below).
One of the most pleasing features of the Wilds is that they can be stacked up to 10 symbols high across the reels, which means that you can turn one or more reels entirely wild on a spin. This can lead to bigger individual pay line wins and of course, a greater number of pay line wins on a single spin.
As a nice additional touch, if you land two of the Scatter symbols on the reels at the same time, they will transform into single Wild symbols and can trigger additional wins as a result.
Free Spins Features
The Free Spins feature actually consists of three different Free Spins games, which are triggered at random initially when you hit three or more of the of the Amber Fossil scatter symbols anywhere across the reels in the base game. However, once you have triggered the Free Spins 15 times, then you will be allowed to select which of the three features you would like to play.
The features are:
Other Bonus Features
The other main bonus in the game is the excellent Indomus Feature, which is a randomly triggered bonus that can occur on any winning spin of between 3 and 5 times your stake in the base game. When triggered you will see the fearsome Indomus Rex lumber onto the screen and this giant dinosaur can boost your winnings up to 1,000 times your total stake if you are lucky.
Best Feature of the Jurassic World slot
Usually on a slot there is one standout feature which is an obvious choice as the best feature of the game, but Jurassic World is so good and packed with so many great features that it is really hard to do this.
At a push I'd say that the best feature of the slot by a very small amount is probably the Creation Lab free spins bonus as with the Rolling Reels feature in operation, you can trigger multiple winning pay lines from a single spin and furthermore, if you can land the Sticky Wilds, then you can really hit a nice run of wins and hit some sizeable returns.
However, that is not to say any of the features of the slot are lacking in comparison, everything on the Jurassic World slot is absolutely first rate, but I just thing the Creation Lab bonus offered me slightly better returns on a consistent basis than the other three bonuses or the base game.
What does the Jurassic World slot lack?
It is genuinely very rare that I say this, but I cannot think of a single thing that the slot lacks, or would require in order to make it better in some way. I suppose higher rollers may be put off by the top end $7.20 stake, but as a medium variance slot, the stake levels are about perfect so I can't really criticize that too much.
Conclusion
Prepare yourself to be blown away once again. Jurassic World was promised to be a blockbuster and indeed it is the fourth highest grossing film of all time. The slot was also promised to be something special and Microgaming have delivered on that promise in an epic way.
From the outstanding presentation, the engaging base game, fantastic bonus features, plenty of variation in the free spins and the medium variance which offers rewards of up to 14,000 times your stake, this is a slot which ticks all the boxes and more.
